    Exceptional

The Newmarket Inn is under new ownership (past 18 months). Ownership is on-sight, overseeing the daily operations: they care about the place and the overall service is excellent. The single room was small (expected) but comfortable and clean. The food was excellent: good pub fare and a delicious carvery. I was walking the South Downs Way and they kindly gave me toast and coffee on-the-go as I had to leave early prior to main breakfast. I wouldn't call this a 'family establishment' but for someone doing business in the area (just outside Lewes) or on a walking trip or weekend outing (about a 10 minute walk off the South Downs Way) the Newmarket Inn is a superb and affordable choice.

(Not really complaints, just comments) The Newarket Inn is on a main road leading out of Lewes toward Brighton, thus it might get a bit noisy for rooms facing the road. For walkers, it can be a bit tricky to get to as you need to navigate or avoid crossing the main road - use a good map which indicates where the South Downs Way and public paths intersect, avoiding the main road altogether; this via a bridge and public path.

Very friendly staff ,the breakfast was good and the location was close to Ringmer for my business trip.

    Fabulous

Dave and his mum were great hosts and made us feel very welcome, The room was very clean and upto date and breakfast was superb. although these rooms are above the pub they do keep strict hours so you are assured of a peaceful nights sleep. Would highly recommend this place if you are looking for out of town acommadation.

Nothing, Great place to stay and the pub food looked great including a grand carvery.

Very relaxed, friendly atmosphere, very good value for money, staff very accomodating.

Room a little noisy (next to large extractor fan)

    Good

Clean comfortable rooms, reasonable price, nice breakfast & friendly staff.

Bit in the middle of nowhere. Would have been a pain if not driving.

    Superb

Staffs were friendly and made us very welcome. We were treated as old friends on this, our first visit. Her son entertained us with his art work and magic tricks after our evening meal—which was very good value and enjoyable ;-) Cathy was most helpful and cooked our breakfast early for us. We would have no hesitation in booking here again.

    Fabulous

The staff were very helpful, and the room was clean with good facilities. The breakfast was good and there was a convivial atmosphere.

The room faced the main road which meant it was rather noisy

    Superb

For a 'pub' hotel I was very impressed, very friendly staff, comfotable room and good breakfast - plus and a great steak meal which you couldn't beat for value anywhere - top class!

Single room was a bit small - but spotless. Couldn't put the cost of the evening meal onto the hotel bill.

    Very good

Pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room and ease of access and parking. Staff friendly, and although I was a late arrival, I was offered a sandwich to eat! I shall be staying again.

    Guest rating

The staff were efficient and friendly, the breakfast was quite good.

The inn itself is in need of updating and some refurbishment. We had a room facing the road and the traffic noise made it impossible to have a window open, which we prefer to do.

    Fabulous

The staff there are excellent and extremely helpful and friendly, feel cozy and family

The location is a bit inconvenient, to stop on the other side of A27 and cross over the highway is a bit dangerous.

    Very good

Good room with decent bath (for hot and sweaty walkers!), Nice beer and very good carvery - probably underpriced. Staff very pleasant.

Access difficult for walkers on South Downs Way - could do with sign on path for hotel.

    Superb

Quality and cleanliness of the room were fantastic - better than many chain hotels that charge more money. Road noise was not as bad as reviews suggested.

Lingering smell of fried breakfast - particularly in the bar.
